Spain - Balearics

What can you hope to get out of a visit to the Balearic archipelago? A sun tan and a good time!

Although this set of islands undoubtedly has a colorful history and a notable culture of its own, it has long been far outweighed by the fact that here are some of the best beaches to be found in the Mediterranean and the wildest nightlife. I am quite sure that most of the many thousand visitors that arrive each summer are not thinking of a cultural awakening when they book their flights.

The three ex-volcanic islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza can best be characterized as being great fun to visit.

Ibiza

Famously, Ibiza the smallest of the three is the home to the summer party scene. With many, very posh, night clubs playing House music and related beeping and flashing music all-night long. This is a fantastic experience, providing that you have the energy and a few quid to spend on the over-priced drinks and entrance fees.

Then its down to the beach at dawn to chill-out or collapse in the sunshine… but be sure to slap on the sun cream. The sun is the hottest above all of Spain.

Menorca

Menorca has many fine beaches tucked away in coves, many of which have been all but privately attached to hotels. But still, these are quaint and have clear blue water that is safe to swim and snorkel in.

Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest island and is home to the capital of the Balearics, Palma. Although it has many sandy beaches, you should perhaps choose this island if you value your day trips and historical monuments for touring. There is plenty to do and see here, with many quaint towns big and small and the impressive Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.
